Why Visit

Meknes & Volubilis Travel Guide

Meknes is one of Morocco's four imperial cities and is often the most peaceful and uncrowded. Built by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century, it features some of the most impressive monumental architecture in North Africa — particularly the enormous Bab Mansour gate, one of the most beautiful in the Islamic world.

Just 30 km north of Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis are Morocco's finest archaeological site, with intact mosaics, arches and columns dating from the 1st to 3rd centuries AD. You Morocco Tours includes Meknes and Volubilis in imperial city circuits from Fes, Casablanca and Rabat.

Meknes is like Fes without the crowds. The Bab Mansour is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. A wonderful addition to our imperial cities circuit from Casablanca.
